Experimental Studies on the Diuretic Activity of the Serum of Nephrosis

Abstract
There were no known mechanisms concerning with the diuresis in nephrosis, spontaneous or steroid induced. Recently, several experimental studies suggest the existence of humoral factors which regulate Na metabolism in the kidney.
Author made the experimental studies to find out the existence of humoral substance in the serum of nephrotic patient. Korean white male rabbits weighing 1.8kg were gavaged with 290" NaCI sdution, 100 ml 3 times hourly for hydration, and 1.0 ml of specimen (serum of nephrosis) was infused intravenously. Urine was collected_ through a indwelling catheter while the rabbits were placed on a holder.
The following results were obtained.
(1) The serum obtained from the patients of nephrosis in oliguric phase was given intravenously into the hydrated rabbits and there was no significant changes in urine volume.
(2) There was a marked and prolonged increase on urine volume in hydrated rabbits after injection of serumTobtained from the nephrotic patients in diuretic phase.
(3) The diuretic activities of the serum in diuretic phase seems ,to be operated by some humoral substance and this humoral substance shows close resemblance with Rie¢¥s diuretic hormone. in its action.
(4) The serum obtained from the patient with longterm steroid medication due to nephrosis shows no changes on urine volume in hydrated rabbits except in diuretic phase, both in good responser and in resister (persistent proteinuria).
Judging from the above results, some humoral substance which closely ;resembles Rie¢¥s diuretic hormone, might be existed in the serum of nephrotic patient in diuretic phase.
